Pharmacy
Hemi Mckechnie - Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine, Te Atihaunui-a-Pāpārangi.
Hemi hails from Whangarei and moved to the opposite end of the country to Otago for four years where he graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. After completing his foundation year through the Tū Kahika programme, he completed first year health sciences and made the choice to pursue pharmacy, inspired by Māori pharmacist Leanne Te Karu. Having completed his studies, Hemi is now a full-fledged pharmacist. He has a kōrero about some of the challenges being away from home and how staying in contact with whānau regularly and the support of Te Puna Kaitaka, the Māori student pharmacy association, helped him get through it! Mātakitaki mai, watch Hemi's story here!
